The project is also notable for its commitment to decentralization in mining. Monero utilizes a Proof-of-Work consensus algorithm called RandomX, which is specifically designed to be resistant to specialized hardware like ASICs. This allows individuals with consumer-grade hardware, such as standard computer CPUs, to participate in securing the network. Development is largely funded through a grassroots system called the Community Crowdfunding System, where members propose and fund improvements to the ecosystem.
