Saga is a Layer 1 blockchain protocol designed to simplify the development of web3 applications by allowing creators to launch their own dedicated blockchains, known as Chainlets. Unlike traditional networks where applications share the same blockspace and compete for resources, Saga provides each project with its own sovereign environment. This architecture enables infinite horizontal scaling, meaning that as more applications join the network, Saga can provision more Chainlets to ensure high performance and low latency without congestion. The core technology of Saga is built using the Cosmos SDK and utilizes a shared security model. This means that all Chainlets are secured by the same set of validators that protect the Saga mainnet, removing the need for developers to recruit and maintain their own validator sets. The system is virtual machine agnostic, supporting popular environments like the Ethereum Virtual Machine and CosmWasm, which allows developers to migrate existing projects easily. A central part of the Saga ecosystem is its focus on gaming and entertainment. The project aims to support the next generation of high-demand applications by offering a user experience that mimics traditional web services. To further this goal, the protocol established a game publishing division called Saga Origins, which provides comprehensive support to developers to bring their games to a mass market. Beyond gaming, the protocol is expanding into decentralized finance and artificial intelligence, utilizing a specialized liquidity integration layer to connect assets across its multi-chain environment. The native token, saga, serves several critical functions within the network. It is used by developers to pay for the computing power and security of their Chainlets. Validators receive these tokens as rewards for maintaining the network and processing transactions. Additionally, the token is used for governance, allowing participants to vote on technical updates and the future direction of the protocol. Since its mainnet launch, the Saga ecosystem has grown to include hundreds of projects, many of which are part of its innovator program. The project has established strategic partnerships with other major blockchain networks like Polygon, Avalanche, and Celestia to enhance cross-chain interoperability and infrastructure. Saga was co-founded by a team of industry veterans, including Rebecca Liao, Jin Kwon, Jacob Mcdorman, and Bogdan Alexandrescu, who brought together expertise from the Cosmos ecosystem and traditional technology sectors.
